How to choose Ice Machine or Ice Maker
What to look at when buying an Ice Machine
Table-top or Counter-top?
Usually for all domestic uses a table-top Ice Machine is the best choice. When not in use it can be stored somewhere out of the sight.
At the same time if the speed and volume are essential, e.g. for large outdoor parties, community events or small bars and restaurants – then counter-top Ice Maker would provide much more ice on demand and at the higher speed. Price wise the difference is also substantial, counter top machines costing about 2-2.5 times more than smaller and less powerful table-top versions.
Main things to look at when buying an Ice Machine of any type.
- Drainage: majority of table-top Ice Makers do not require any drainage and work on add water and go basis. Some of the bigger Ice Machines might need drainage or even plumbing that makes them far from being portable.
- Capacity: many Icemakers are quoting the daily capacity at 10-15 kgs. At the same time there is another capacity that we call a “butch capacity”. This is important as if you need many ice cubes available in single batch rather than over time then you need larger machine. Most of the table-top versions can only make up to 700gr of ice in one batch. It means that you might need several runs if you require more ice cubes.
- Speed: this should be taken into account together with the batch size. Most of the machines can make a first batch of ice cubes in 6-10 minutes but check how many cubes will be ready.
- Controls: there aren’t many controls really, but audible alarm would come handy.
- Weight: table-top ice makers are usually under 10 kgs so could be easily taken to your garden or conservatory, counter-top machines could weigh much more.
